Premium Barrel Aged Tequilas Highlight Passion for Experimentation, Now in Stores

LOUISVILLE, KY (Dec. 1, 2021) – Corazón Tequila is releasing its 2021 collection of Expresiones del Corazón, a unique collection of limited edition barrel-aged tequilas, born from Casa San Matias Distillery’s passion for experimentation. A new Elmer T. Lee Reposado joins William Larue Weller Añejo, George T. Stagg Añejo and Artisanal Blanco for this release, arriving in stores now. Expresiones del Corazón unites premium tequila with Buffalo Trace Distillery barrels which once held bourbons named for legendary bourbon craftsmen who also shared a passion for experimentation.

Elmer T. Lee Reposado was aged 12 months in Elmer T. Lee barrels and has a smooth, lightly sweet flavor with toasted almond, cinnamon and chocolate notes.

The William Larue Weller Añejo in this year’s release was aged 26 months in William Larue Weller bourbon barrels, nearly a year longer than previous releases of this expression. The extra aging created a harmoniously smooth and dense taste with lightly sweet overtones.

George T. Stagg Añejo was aged 22 months in George T. Stagg barrels, and tastes of cinnamon, chocolate and green apple.

The Artisanal Blanco was held for 60 days in stainless steel, and with less aging, brilliantly expresses the terroir in the tequila. This expression has a sweet, soft, mint, eucalyptus and slightly tangy taste.

Corazón is produced at the Casa San Matias Distillery in Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico using 100 percent blue agave from the highlands. Many factors play a role in the creation of these tequilas, yet inside the barrel is where all the magic takes place. That is what makes the Expresiones del Corazón line so unique. For this collection Master Distiller Rocio Rodriguez Torres experimented with aging tequila in barrels that once held limited whiskies, leaning on the Distillery’s more than 130 years of tequila experience and aging expertise. What she and her team discovered is that each barrel imparts its own unique flavor, creating one-of-a-kind tequilas. That tequila-making wisdom paired with Buffalo Trace Distillery’s dedication to making quality bourbon creates an exciting new lineup for this seventh release of Expresiones del Corazón.

The Expresiones del Corazón line has garnered a number of top awards over the years for various limited release expressions. Among top distinctions received over the past year, the 2021 World Tequila Awards named Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Añejo the competition’s Best Añejo. George T. Stagg Añejo was awarded a Trophy at the 2021 International Spirits Challenge, a distinction given to the highest-scoring products in each category, and William Larue Weller Añejo was awarded a Gold medal. The 2021 Ultimate Spirits Challenge named Artisanal Blanco Tequila a finalist for the prestigious Chairman’s Trophy, the competition’s highest honor.

“We are very proud of this year’s collaboration between two highly awarded distilleries,” Agave Marketing Director Megan Hurtuk said. “With a shared passion for craftsmanship and experimentation, Casa San Matias and the Buffalo Trace Distillery are represented so perfectly in these tequilas- we look forward to raising a glass with tequila & bourbon aficionados alike!”

Expresiones del Corazón are now available nationally, however quantities are very limited. The suggested retail price for the Artisanal Blanco is $59.99, Elmer T. Lee Reposado is $69.99, and William Larue Weller Añejo, and George T. Stagg Añejo are $79.99 each. All four of this year’s expressions are 80 proof.
