Learn the secrets of the Cognac region

Our roots in France go back four centuries

The name Sazerac can be traced to vineyards in this corner of South West France dating back to the 1630s. Here, a unique combination of soil, a micro-climate and even the soft, milky light that bathes the region – the French call this ‘terroir’ - combine to make the most famous brandy in the world: cognac.

Your Morning

Bonjour

The main square in Cognac has several cafés with open-air terraces where you can enjoy a typical French breakfast of café au lait with fresh, buttery croissants. Watch the world go by beside the statue of King François 1st of France who was born here in 1494.

Then stroll around the historic old town with its cobbled streets, and stop along the River Charente for lunch and a refreshing drink.

Good Afternoon

A thirst for history

Learn the fascinating story of the Sazerac de Forge family – serial entrepreneurs of the 18th and 19th centuries, who had businesses across the globe.  Complement this with sight-seeing of the historic Grande Champagne vineyards and antique pot stills at Domaine Sazerac de Segonzac. Discover the time-honored techniques of transforming the grapes into wine, then into a fiery, colorless spirit, before finally becoming the mellow, fragrant, golden nectar that is cognac, a process lasting sometimes more than half a century.

Reflect on all you have seen with a cold Greyhound cocktail.
